SacredSilver is the new project from two musicians – Brian Carson (singer) and John Housley (guitarist). Currently, SacredSilver is a studio project. Carson has fronted the Michigan based successful band ‘Raggedy Ann’ and Housley is with ‘A200′, a Modern Rock act comprising of five members.

Housley is based in Fort Myers, Florida which means that he is at 1200 miles (1,931km) away from Carson. This has only been a geographical obstacle for collaboration. The band has brought in several musicians and producers on the project fine tuning their sound. They are slated to release a single a month through 2015 on their website

John Housley Interview:

Metal Empire: Would you care to introduce yourself for our audience? What is your name and what do you do?

John Housley: My name is John Housley, I am a guitarist currently co-writing with Brian Carson for the band Sacred Silver.

Metal Empire: What is the band up to at the moment? Is there something you’re working on currently?

John Housley: We are finishing our first recording project consisting of thirteen songs and compiling footage to finish videos for each song. Currently, we have released two songs with videos, and have a new song and video scheduled each month.

Metal Empire: Tell us about the music you make, how would you describe your sound?

John Housley: Our sound? Heavy without compromising melody. The sound of spending years honing your craft with years of performing live.

Metal Empire: Can you talk about your production process? How do you go about writing new material?

John Housley: Brian and I write the music from a stockpile of ideas gathered over the past few years. I write usually about 50 to 100 songs a year. Brian will play through them until something catches his ear. He then starts recording vocal ideas, and we discuss edits if needed. From there we take them to the studio and get the music ready for release and video.

Metal Empire: What and who are some of your major influences? Please give a few details about what you enjoy about creating music and what inspires you to make it.

John Housley: Influences? The list is too long, the creative process is a way of life. Not just in your music but with the way you approach living. Music is a way of sharing yourself, giving back from the amazing resource of music available from the culture we share.

Metal Empire: What’s your favourite thing about playing live?

John Housley: The connection. If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, did the tree make a sound? When you play live everyone is a part of the experience. The crowd is experiencing the music as much as the performer. As a performer you experience it from both sides, as the performer and as the witness. The exchange is a flow that moves like a current through everyone and everyone contributes to the charge that is shared.

Metal Empire: Have you played any shows or toured alongside any major artists? Are there any shows that come to mind that you feel make a great story? If so, tell us about it.

John Housley: I have had the privilege to share the stage with many amazing artists. I usually perform around 250 show a year. Sometimes performing classical guitar for a wedding. Sometimes playing in front of ZZ Top. Touring with Blackfoot was a great experience. Rickey Medlocke was one of the most gracious people I have had the chance to work with. The man has one lung and can still blow out the diaphragm on a 58.

Metal Empire: Is there any band or artist you would give anything to play a show with? If so, who are they and why?

John Housley: Joni Mitchell, to be near that voice.

Metal Empire: What are you hopes for the future? Where do you see yourself as an artist this time next year or the year after?

John Housley: I’m very excited to be working with Brian Carson again. We toured for years and he is the most amazing singer I have had the good fortune to work with. The opportunity to write and record with him again is why I see us writing more through the years.

Metal Empire: If I was to turn up at a show, what should I expect from you in terms of music and showmanship? Is there any crazy stuff you do to pull the crowd?

John Housley: Quality and consistency is what I strive for. That’s usually what people put their money toward; a solid great show.

Metal Empire: What do you think about music piracy, do you think it effects music sales negatively, or do you think there is another cause behind the current drop in record sales?

John Housley: It definitely effects sales negatively. It’s the reason there are so few platinum artists today. Is that good? Is that bad? The next decade will shed some interesting light on the subject.

Metal Empire: There is a lot of talk about the downfall of the music industry as a whole, do you believe this is the case, or do you believe it is evolving? What do you feel could improve the situation?

John Housley: It’s definitely changing. The field is leveling. Change is a response, I think it will clean things a bit and allow for a whole new dirty to present itself.

Metal Empire: Do you receive much fan mail, and if so what’s the craziest, creepiest or coolest thing you’ve ever gotten from a fan?

John Housley: N/A

Metal Empire: Name one thing you love, one thing you hate and one thing you think everyone should try at least once before they die?

John Housley: Everyone gets to choose their own ride. My view might not be that interesting so I’ll opt for “to each his own.”

Metal Empire: If you could have one wish, what would it be and why?

John Housley: World peace, no poverty, sounds utopian to me.

Metal Empire: Thank you for taking the time to speak to us about what you do. Do you have any final words, or anything you would like to add?

John Housley: Best to all in all you do.
