Giulio Nightfall is a Italian guitar virtuoso, bassist, drummer and songwriter whose main genre is hard rock/heavy metal with a soundtrack movie style. He is also thriller writer and guitar luthier! Giulio Nightfall has released 10 albums and 3 thriller/horror novels.

Metal Empire: Would you care to introduce yourself for our audience? What is your name and what do you do?

Giulio Nightfall: My name is Giulio Nightfall and I’m the front man of the band. I have published 10 albums in two years working with various international artists. I play different genres, but my favorite genre is hard rock and heavy metal. Some might say I’m a guitar virtuoso.

Metal Empire: You recently released your album “Instinct”. What can you tell us about this album?

Giulio Nightfall: I’m back to doing my favourite genre. This was an important album to make for me, to make it happen. I have worked with several international artists: Bojan Aleksic a singer and lyricist (except for the song Walking on the Road) and drummer Jason Meekins present in different songs. It’s an album with an original sound, hard ‘n’ heavy with technical and fast guitar. I think we did an exellent job!

Metal Empire: Tell us about the music you make, how would you describe your sound?

Giulio Nightfall: I write and compose my music where I alternate from moments of sweetness and happiness, to dark and powerful moments of pure hard rock and metal. The contrast, that my music is wrapped in a mystery of light and darkness, traces a path of perpetual dualism, that human beings live in every day, in which love often clashes with hatred, the sweetness with coldness, fragility with strength and tears with a smile.

Metal Empire: Can you talk about your production process? How do you go about writing new material?

Giulio Nightfall: I create music at night. Daylight makes me less creative, but at night my creativity is great. When it’s summer I compose music with the full moon it’s magical. I try to understand my emotions and then I take my guitar and I start to look for the best scale and chords for the emotions I feel. A song tells a story!

Metal Empire: What and who are some of your major influences? What are your favorite guitarists?

Giulio Nightfall: My major influences are Yngiwe Malmsteen and Joe Satriani. They were my idols since childhood.

Metal Empire: What’s your important thing about playing live?

Giulio Nightfall: The mastery of one’s mind is important. Remain calm and sure of oneself, together will help you master your musical instrument. The feeling with the band before the concert is really important. These mental states are the key to a great concert!

Metal Empire: I know that you’re also a guitar liuther and you have also written books including one where you talk about how to build an electric guitar. How long does it take to build an electric guitar with the characteristics that you want?

Giulio Nightfall: Building an electric guitar is a fascinating experience! The building process can vary from 2 to 4 months. Also those who build a guitar will have a better feeling with the musical instrumental for obvious reasons. A homemade guitar will produce a unique sound and different from all other commercial guitars! It’s something personal which helps to better express the emotions.

Metal Empire: Can you define yourself as a self-taught guitarist?

Giulio Nightfall: I studied classical guitar for 3 years. The electric guitar and more comnplesse techniques I learn alone (alternate picking, tapping, sweep picking, etc.) I think that I can define myself as at least 80% self-taught.

Metal Empire: What are you hopes for the future?

Giulio Nightfall: I’m happy where I am and I want to continue on this road!

Metal Empire: If I was to turn up at a show, what should I expect from you in terms of music and showmanship? Is there any crazy stuff you do to pull the crowd?

Giulio Nightfall: As a guitar luthier using my home-made guitars in concert. The Particularity of guitars is that they have no paint, so the wood is left complete freedom of movement. This creates a very unique sound, along with the speed and greater feeling that I can send to the instrument. The sound and impact sound is powerful, it really rocks!

Metal Empire: What do you think about music piracy, do you think it effects music sales negatively, or do you think there is another cause behind the current drop in record sales?

Giulio Nightfall: I think that piracy harms emerging musicians, but if you try to do something different and very emotional, I think people will support you in anyway they can. I think the future is in streaming music services like Spotify. The computer has made music more virtual, no more physical disks. The world has changed, it’s a musical evolution.

Metal Empire: What do you think of Satanism in heavy metal?

Giulio Nightfall: I think that everyone is free to believe what they want, but I do not approve the violence against innocent people. Some metal lyrics are filled with a lot of Satanic imagery, but then the same band members say they are atheists. In my music there aren’t any references to this kind of issue. I’m a pantheist. I believe in the energy of the universe.

Metal Empire: What are the countries where your album sold the most?

Giulio Nightfall: I think the United States has sold the most, but honestly everywhere as accepted it fairly well.

Metal Empire: Name one thing you love, one thing you hate and one thing you think everyone should try at least once before they die?

Giulio Nightfall: I love a good challenge, I hate opportunists, I think that before someone dies, they should try true love at least once.

Metal Empire: If you could have one wish, what would it be and why?

Giulio Nightfall: I want to do a duet with Malmsteen. This has been my wish since I was a small boy.

Metal Empire: Thank you for taking the time to speak to us about what you do. Do you have any final words, or anything you would like to add?

Giulio Nightfall: Thanks for the interview. I am happy to have been a part of it. Metal forever!
