It’s arguably a sign of the times that we’re lucky enough to be seeing two bands who, on their day, could and perhaps still can fill some of these venues on individual merits, but the both of them, on the same night, with bands of the calibre of Miss May I and Battlecross in support? We’ve lost count of the number of anthems set to be unleashed when this one touches down.
Both bands, of course, released albums last year that attracted attention for slightly different reasons. For Trivium, 2013 was a maddening 12 months that saw the release of Vengeance Falls becoming, arguably, somewhat overshadowed by the involvement of one David Draiman. As for Killswitch, their year was nothing short of triumphant, with an excellent comeback album in Disarm The Descent matched by a series of brilliant shows, most noticeably of which a UK run which ended in a soon-to-be legendary showing at Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Sadly, their follow-up show at the London Garage a few months later was plagued by sound issues, meaning that, come this tour, they’ll be wanting to make some serious amends.
Whatever each band’s respective recent history might tell us, though, one thing is definitely for certain: this tour features two bands that represent some significant chapters in metal’s storied history, and with those supports in tow, this really does look set to be one that could remind us of why are lot of us are here, right now, doing this today. Wait until the first few notes of Fixation On The Darkness hit and you’ll see exactly what we mean.
