Avenged Sevenfold’s M Shadows

Avenged Sevenfold singer M Shadows has made an appearance on Chris Jericho’s new Podcast to talk metal, the band’s increasing workload and making history with Hail To The King.

“When you’re out there, flying out to shows and doing all these things, there really isn’t much time to hang out, party and celebrate,” says Shadows of Avenged’s reaction to going number one both here and Stateside. “It was very different, this time, you know? It’s always different. “We had a pretty good idea of how the fans were going to react [to the album]. Every record, we get the same thing – there are a lot of people that like it, and people that don’t. We always have adamant people that are, like, every record is our ‘best record’, and all the other ones suck. When we’ve got our next record, there will be people that say, ‘This isn’t as good as Hail To The King,’ and there’ll be people that [are happy that] we didn’t put out another record like Hail To The King.

“So, for us, we’re kinda in that realm where we get a lot of complainers about whatever we put out, so I knew exactly what we were getting ourselves into. I don’t really know any other way to do it, though. We like to put out different records, and I’m sure that our next record will be as different to Hail To The King as Hail To The King is to anything else we’ve already put out. It’s exciting; I like putting stuff out and seeing the reaction.”

Hail To The King is out now. Avenged Sevenfold headline Download 2014, which takes place June 13-15 at Castle Donington. You can buy your tickets here.
