Corey Taylor: moving on

Corey Taylor has discussed the impact that Joey Jordison leaving Slipknot will likely have on the band’s new album, and whether they have a replacement lined up.

“Honestly, it depends on who we get [as Joey’s replacement],” Corey tells Rock Revolt Magazine. “It all comes to someone who can play the old stuff, but also brings a certain creativity to it. In lieu of what we’ve done, we need to focus on that, and make that the focus right now, instead of worrying about what’s gonna happen later.’

As to whether the ‘Knot have a new drummer lined up, Corey muses, “A few people. As soon as we know, the fans will know. And that’s how we’re keeping it. We’re keeping everything really close to the chest right now. I mean, it’s out of respect for Joe, and for us. And there’s just a host of legal things that we still need to sort out.

“I know there’s this myth out there that Joey wrote everything, but that’s not at all true,” he adds. “We all write, and we all bring something to the table. And between me and Jim [Root, guitar] and Mick [Thomson, guitar] and Clown [Shawn Crahan, percussion] and everybody [else], I think we’re gonna be able to put something really, really cool together. The dynamic will change a little bit, but as far as our approach to the music and our intensity and how much we love doing what we do, that will remain unchanged, and we’re gonna go for it just 110 percent.”*

Joey Jordison: Knot-less

It was announced shortly before Christmas that Joey had left the Slipknot fold, with Joey rebutting the notion that he “quit” shortly after.

“To my fans, friends, and associates… I would like to start the New Year by addressing the recent rumours and speculation regarding my departure from Slipknot,” commented the drummer in a statement posted online.

“I want to make it very clear that I DID NOT QUIT SLIPKNOT. This band has been my life for the last 18 years, and I would never abandon it, or my fans.

“This news has shocked and blindsided me as much as it has all of you.

“While there is much I would like to say, I must remain silent to further details at this time. I would like to thank you all for your unwavering love and support, and wish everyone a very happy and healthy new year.”
